First and foremost, thank you for such an informal course! My partner and I chose your course out of the others due to it being online and having the Christian option. A long story short about my relationship with my partner, we live in different countries, yes countries not counties. We met 2 years ago through a dating app and have spoken every day since. He has visited me in America 3 times since and I have been in England 3 times as well. We have since planned to have me move over and work on my immigration after 2 years and we kept our word on that.
Since our first interaction we asked all the hard stuff, from how do you react in an argument to what is your relationship like with your parents to what our strengths and weaknesses are in a relationship. Honestly going over some of the assignments reminded us of how strong we are in our relationship and of how much we have already gone over in our daily lives. This course is how we typically communicate since day one of knowing each other and we wish to continue that and use these guides to remind us of what’s important.
I truly enjoyed incorporating the importance of families and what roles they play in our lives as we prepare for marriage in the “parent’s section.” We have completed a bit over 4 hours with a few more lessons to go this week. We look forward to these guided lessons and look forward to being married soon. – Franny
I found the introduction video prior to the “Before We Say ‘I Do’” conversation quite reflective. My partner and I briefly paused the video after the C.H.E.K. to attempt its application in our own relationships. This quickly became a 15-minute exercise exploring what exactly each term meant generally and in the context of our relationship to God. In honesty we both liked the model very much and would have liked a deeper explanation.
The communication Bucket exercise was fun as well as helpful going into “Before We Say…”, with our answers varying greatly we were reminded about how we both appreciate various parts of our relationship and each other equally, yet differently. The Conversation concerning “Our Parents” was a very lengthy and emotional one, allowing us to identify many unspoken truths for ourselves more than for each other. I sent “what I would say to my parent” to my mother with a positive outcome. I look forward to working through the other conversations, exploring the depths and breadth of our upcoming marriage. – Dimitri
