Money, Time, Fear – Three Reasons for Skipping Premarital Coaching

Even though it has been proven that premarital coaching sets the stage for couples to enjoy a more successful and satisfying marriage, many couples choose to skip it. Why?

1. Money concerns.

Planning a wedding, even a smaller one, can balloon into a giant expense. Some couples shell out big bucks from their own pockets. The thought of paying for premarital education (when it’s often not even required) makes it an expensive thing to skip. But every couple needs to realize that the wedding day is only one day in their lifetime; the marriage is for a lifetime. Premarital coaching is maybe the best investment of money (even more than the cake) any couple can make toward a brighter future.

2. Time constraints.

Many couples have crazy, busy lives. Finding time to meet with a premarital coach or even to do a private online marriage prep course can seem impossible. Some marriage prep is offered in a weekend retreat setting; some happens one-on-one with several sessions with a premarital coach; a new approach, and just as effective, is to utilize an online course where couples can have an excellent marriage coaching experience at your own pace and in the privacy of your own home. Yes, marriage preparation takes a little bit of time, but in the larger scheme of things, the time spent is well worth it. In fact, it can save time in the future by helping couples avoid misunderstandings and even heartaches.

3. Fear and apprehension.

Some engaged couples skip premarital coaching for fear that they won’t be able to find the right coach or program. Other couples might be afraid of what they will discover about themselves or their partner. “What if we’re not compatible??” They can talk to their wedding officiant to get some ideas or explore some of the new non-threatening possibilities that are available online.
